7 things I would do if I were the Product Manager of CRED




As a product manager at CRED, my foremost responsibility is to ensure that our users are delighted with their experience on our app. To achieve this, I would begin by conducting comprehensive user research to identify their needs and the current problems they may be facing. These are the steps I would take to conduct thorough user research and extract valuable insights for improving the CRED app.


1. Understand users through extensive user research.


a) User Surveys: The initial step in the user research process involves identifying different segments of CRED app users and distributing surveys tailored to each group. By leveraging platforms such as Google Forms or SurveyMonkey, we can collect quantitative data on user experiences, pain points, and suggestions for improvement. To ensure we reach the right audience, we can incorporate screening questions at the beginning of each survey.

Open-ended questions will be utilized to encourage users to provide detailed responses, which will offer valuable qualitative insights into their experiences. To reach a wide range of users, we will employ various channels such as email lists, social media channels, website pop-ups, and in-app notifications.

b) App Analytics: Another crucial aspect of the research process involves using app analytics tools like Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics. By analyzing user behavior within the CRED app, we can gain valuable insights into user flows, drop-off points, and common patterns of frustration or confusion.

App analytics data will be instrumental in understanding how users interact with the app and where they might encounter challenges or difficulties. Armed with this information, we can make data-driven decisions to optimize the user journey and overall experience.

c) User Interviews: In addition to quantitative data, qualitative insights are equally crucial in understanding user motivations and pain points. Conducting one-on-one interviews with a diverse group of CRED app users will enable us to delve deeper into their experiences.

By asking open-ended questions and actively listening to their feedback, we can uncover unmet needs, identify areas for improvement, and gain a deeper understanding of what truly matters to our users. These interviews will provide valuable context to complement the quantitative data obtained from surveys and app analytics.


Some initiatives I would like to take


As the Product Manager of CRED, I envision several exciting initiatives that can take the app to new heights and provide users with an even more rewarding and efficient experience. These six key features would be my top priorities:


2. Introduce "Budgeting/Expense Management" Feature:

To empower users in managing their finances better, I propose the introduction of "Budgeting/Expense Management" in the CRED app. This feature will enable users to gain better control over their spending and financial goals. The implementation process would involve the following steps:

a) User Study: Conduct in-depth research and gather user feedback from existing budgeting apps to identify common pain points and desirable features.

b) Define the Scope: Determine the scope of the feature, covering basic budgeting, expense categorization, and spending limits.

c) Set Budget Categories and Limits: Allow users to set personalized budget categories (e.g., groceries, entertainment, transportation) and define spending limits for each category. This will enable them to track expenses and stay within their budget.

d) Expense Tracking and Categorization: Implement an automated system for expense tracking and categorization. Users should also have the option to manually categorize transactions for accurate budgeting insights.

e) Visualize Spending Trends: Introduce intuitive charts and graphs to visualize spending trends over time. This data will help users identify patterns in their expenses and make necessary adjustments to their budget.


3. Introduce "CRED Pay/CRED Money" Feature:

To enhance the app's functionality and provide users with a seamless payment experience, I propose the "CRED Pay" feature. This feature would work similarly to popular payment gateways like Amazon Pay. Here's how we can implement it:

a) Market Research and Competitor Analysis: Conduct extensive research to understand existing payment options and identify any gaps or pain points. Analyze competitor apps and payment solutions to learn from their strengths and weaknesses.

b) Define Objectives and Scope: Clearly outline the objectives of introducing "CRED Pay" and determine its scope, including how users can add money to "CRED Pay" and use it within the app.

c) Compliance and Security: Prioritize user safety and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards. Implement robust security measures, such as encryption and two-factor authentication, to protect user data and transactions.

d) Partnership with Other Apps: Forge strategic partnerships with various apps and payment gateways to enable "CRED Pay" as a convenient payment option.


4. Introduce "Loan for You" Feature:

To provide users with easy access to personalized loan offers, I propose the "Loan for You" feature. This feature will streamline the loan application process and empower users to make informed decisions. Here's the step-by-step guide to implement it:

a) Market Research and Regulations: Conduct thorough research to understand the demand for personal loans among our target audience. Familiarize ourselves with the regulatory requirements for offering loans within the app.

b) Partnerships with Lenders: Collaborate with banks, financial institutions, and peer-to-peer lending platforms to offer diverse loan options through the app. Forge partnerships with credible and reputable lenders to instill user trust.

c) Personalized Loan Offers: Present users with personalized loan offers based on their creditworthiness, financial history, and preferences. Display transparent information about loan amount, interest rates, repayment terms, and associated fees.

d) Streamlined Loan Application Process: Create a user-friendly loan application process within the app. Enable users to apply for loans directly from the app and upload necessary documents electronically. Provide real-time updates on the application status, keeping users informed throughout the process.

e) Loan Repayment Tracking: Implement tools for users to track their loan repayment status, including upcoming installments and payment history.


5. Enable CRED Coins for Shopping on Amazon/Flipkart:

To add greater value to CRED coins and enhance the user's shopping experience, I propose enabling CRED coins to be used as a payment method on popular e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. Here's how we can achieve this:

a) Establish Partnerships: Engage in negotiations and establish partnerships with Amazon and Flipkart to integrate CRED coins as a valid payment method for shopping on their platforms.

b) Integrate APIs: Collaborate with Amazon and Flipkart to integrate APIs, facilitating seamless communication and transaction processing between CRED and the e-commerce giants.

c) Define Conversion Rate: Set a clear and transparent conversion rate between CRED coins and the currency used on Amazon and Flipkart. This will ensure users know the value of their CRED coins when used for shopping.


6. Optimize Rewards Program:

To create a more engaging and rewarding experience for users, I propose optimizing the rewards program. Quality and personalization will be our key focus areas. Here's how we can achieve it:

a) Understand User Preferences: Conduct comprehensive user surveys, interviews, and data analysis to understand the types of rewards users prefer. Focus on offering rewards that align with their interests and needs.

b) Personalization: Implement personalized rewards based on user behavior and spending patterns. Tailor offers for specific user segments and customize rewards based on their redemption history.

c) Quality over Quantity: Prioritize high-quality rewards over an overwhelming number of spins and vouchers. Valuable rewards will enhance user satisfaction and engagement.

d) Purposeful Gamification: If retaining the spin element, incorporate purposeful and engaging gamification elements. Allow users to earn spins or vouchers through specific tasks, challenges, or achievements.

e) Seasonal and Event-Based Rewards: Introduce special rewards or offers during holidays, festivals, or significant events to boost user engagement during specific periods.


7. Segregate CRED Travel as a Separate Brand:

Recognizing the distinct domains of financial services and tourism services, I propose segregating CRED Travel as a separate brand and app. This strategic move will help maintain clarity in our brand offerings and concentrate on respective specializations. Here's how we can handle this transition:

a) Assess User Engagement: Analyze user data to understand the usage and engagement of CRED Travel within the app. Evaluate whether there are valid reasons for separating it as a distinct brand.

b) Communication Strategy: Develop a clear and transparent communication strategy to inform users about the removal of CRED Travel from the app and its continuation as a separate brand. Notify users through app notifications, emails, or in-app messages, explaining the reasons for the change.

In conclusion, these seven initiatives will significantly elevate the CRED app's value proposition and provide users with an exceptional and holistic financial experience. By embracing innovation and user-centric solutions, we can solidify CRED's position as a leading platform for users' financial needs.
